BitBack Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-07-12
BitBack ("BitBack", "the app", "we") is a personal health-and-fitness dashboard for Android. It reads the health and fitness data you already have in Android Health Connect and displays it back to you on your own device. This policy explains exactly what data the app touches and what happens to it.
The short version: BitBack runs entirely on your device. It has no user accounts, no servers, and no analytics or advertising. Your health data is never transmitted off your phone, never sold, and never shared with any third party.
1. Who is responsible for this app
This app is published by Arnav Rakesh Pant (Tangent).

2. What data BitBack accesses
BitBack reads the following data types from Health Connect, only to display them to you inside the app:
- Steps
- Distance
- Heart rate
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability (HRV)
- Sleep sessions (including sleep stages)
- Weight
- Active calories burned
- Total calories burned
- Exercise sessions (workouts)
- Hydration
- Floors climbed
- Respiratory rate
- Blood pressure
- Basal metabolic rate (used only to estimate your active calories when no measured value exists)
If you choose to use BitBack's optional manual-logging features, BitBack may write the following data types back into Health Connect, only when you explicitly enter them: hydration, sleep, weight, and blood pressure. BitBack never writes data you did not enter yourself.
Past data: if you allow "access past data" in Health Connect, BitBack reads your older history (data from before the last 30 days) the same way it reads recent data, so your trends and history can reach further back. It stays on your phone like everything else, and you can turn this off at any time in Health Connect settings. If you decline, BitBack simply works with the recent window.
Blood pressure readings are shown to you exactly as they were recorded. BitBack does not diagnose, classify, or categorise them, and it is not a medical device. See the medical disclaimer below.
BitBack does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, files outside its own storage, or any data type not listed above.
3. How BitBack uses your data
Your health and fitness data is used for one purpose: to show it to you, on the dashboard, the detail screens (heart, sleep, activity, hydration), and the trend charts. Each data type maps to a feature you can see in the app. BitBack does not profile you, make medical determinations, or use your data for any decision-making.
4. Where your data goes (storage and transmission)
- Health and fitness data is read live from Health Connect on your device and rendered in the app. BitBack does not copy your health data into any external database or send it to any server.
- BitBack has no backend, no cloud, and no user account. Nothing you do in the app is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
- The app stores your local preferences (such as theme and units) and a local history of your daily summarieson your device, in the app's private storage. The history exists so the app can show you trends older than the roughly 30 days Health Connect keeps. Each day summary also notes which app supplied the numbers (by its Android package name, like com.fitbit.FitbitMobile), so you can audit where a value came from. None of it leaves your device unless you yourself export it. You can delete it at any time in Settings.
- If you use Export to CSV, the file is written to the app's private storage on your device. It is shared only if you choose to share it(e.g. to email or Drive) using Android's share sheet. That action, and where it goes, is entirely under your control.
5. Data sharing
BitBack does not sell, rent, transfer, or share your health or fitness data with any third party. Specifically, BitBack does not:
- transfer or sell your data to advertising platforms, data brokers, or resellers;
- use your health or fitness data for advertising of any kind (including personalized or interest-based ads);
- include any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising software.
5a. This website
Everything above is about the app, which never sends your health data anywhere. This website is a separate thing, and it does keep a small amount of visit data so I can tell which posts bring people here and which Android versions to prioritise. Being specific, because “we value your privacy” is how every other site says nothing:
- No cookies, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics. Nothing is stored on or read from your device, and no other company receives anything. That is why there is no cookie banner: there are no cookies to consent to.
- Your IP address is never stored. It is used for a moment to work out a country and to stop spam, then discarded.
- What is kept per visit: country and region, browser and operating system version, screen size, language, time zone, the site that linked you here, which buttons you pressed, how far you scrolled and how long you stayed.
- There is no account and no profile. A random id ties one page load together and is thrown away when you leave, so two visits by the same person cannot be connected.
- No health data is involved. Your health data is on your phone and this website has never seen any of it.
6. Data retention and deletion
Because BitBack keeps no server-side copy of your data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our end. You remain in full control:
- Stop BitBack from reading your data:open Health Connect (Android Settings → Health Connect, or the Health Connect app) → app permissions → revoke BitBack's access. Revoking removes all read and write permissions for BitBack.
- Delete the underlying data: manage or delete records directly in Health Connect; BitBack does not control data written by other apps.
- Delete your local history: Settings → Delete local history removes the day summaries BitBack has stored on your device.
- Remove the app's local data: uninstalling BitBack deletes its local preferences, its local history, and any export files it created in its private storage.
7. Security
Your data is protected by Android's application sandbox and by Health Connect's permission model, which requires your explicit consent before BitBack can read or write any data type. Because the data never leaves your device through BitBack, it is never exposed to network interception by the app.
8. Children
BitBack is a general-audience health-and-fitness app and is not directed to children under the age required for consent in your jurisdiction.
9. Medical disclaimer
BitBack is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. It is for general informational and wellness purposes only. Do not rely on it for medical decisions; consult a qualified healthcare professional.
10. Not affiliated with Google or Fitbit
BitBack reads from Health Connect, an Android platform feature. BitBack is an independent app and is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or operated by Google, Fitbit, or any device manufacturer.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and post the revised policy at the same URL. Material changes will be reflected in the app's listing.
